Using Frankincense for Anxious Feelings, Stress, Pain & Skincare

It’s no secret: I LOVE Frankincense essential oil.

I use it every day. I incorporate it into perfume blends, use it in my anti-aging skincare routine and rely on it to get me through stress or overwhelm.

It may just be one essential oil - but it has so many uses. So today, allow me to sing the praises of this precious, powerful, seductive essential oil for you!

This guide will help you learn how to use Frankincense for:

Using Frankincense for anxious feelings and stress

When I wake up in the morning and need to ease worried or anxious emotions, I reach for my Frankincense. I put a drop under my tongue, hold it there for 30 seconds and then wash it down with my lemon water, a cup of energizing tea or juice. This is super effective!

You can keep doing this throughout your day. Throw your bottle of Frank into your bag and take it to work! While the taste takes some getting used to at first, i have learned to love the taste and I even like to add a single drop to my tea for a calming effect.

In addition to using doTERRA Frankincense internally under your tongue or in a drink, you can use it in an essential oil diffuser! I really enjoy the smell of Frankincense and it feels so good to walk into a room where it’s diffusing. If you haven’t used an essential oil diffuser yet, this is a small machine that you plug in that disperse essential oils into your air to affect your mood. I highly recommend that you diffuse Frankincense on your desk so that you combat overwhelm before it begins. In my diffuser I often pair it with Wild Orange, which is a fantastic combination and smells uplifting and motivating.

Don’t have a diffuser? No problem - Just pour 2 drops Wild Orange, 2 drops Frankincense into your palm.

Rub your hands together, cup them over your nose/mouth and deeply inhale.

Doesn’t that feel amazing?!


Using Frankincense for pain

Using Frankincense for pain is super simple! Its is incredibly useful for the inflammation that comes with pain, and for aching joints.

For the best results, I highly suggest that you pair it with Deep Blue rub, which is like a nontoxic version of icy hot. It comes in a cream and has a cooling effect. Frankincense itself is helpful for minor aches, but these 2 things together are transformative for easing pain in the body.

Here’s how to do it!

  1. Pour 4-5 drops of Frankincense essential oil into your hand.

  2. Massage the oil into the painful spot (painful lower back, tense shoulders, swollen calves, aching joints)

  3. On top of this, massage Deep Blue rub to drive the oil deep into the skin and provide soothing relief.

Do this whenever you need natural pain relief. If you specifically need joint pain relief for your hands, pour 5-6 drops of Frankincense into your palm and massage it into both of your hands, front and back. This is soothing for inflammation and great for cellular health. You can use a tiny dollop of Deep Blue rub to massage into your hands for the pain! (Make sure to avoid touching your eyes, nose or any sensitive areas of the body after using Deep Blue because it has a cooling effect).

Using Frankincense for natural skincare

I am obsessed with all things skincare!

I use so many beautiful essential oils to tighten, firm, brighten and nourish my skin naturally because I know how powerful oils can be for skin. But Frankincense is absolutely one of my Favorite skincare oils of all time! I use it constantly.

Frankincense is supportive for cellular health and it protects against sun damage. You can:

  • Add a drop of Frankincense into your nightly moisturizer to brighten your skin and keep it healthy

  • Apply Frankincense to the tips of your fingerpads and gently pat it onto the dark circle area under your eyes, ensuring that the oil does not get too close to your eyes. This can help reduce the appearance of dark circles and fine lines

  • Use to ease a sunburn! Apply directly to a burn, or mix 3-5 drops of Frankincense with a tablespoon of coconut oil and massage into your skin.

  • Apply consistently to reduce the appearance of scars, moles, and other skin imperfections
